Understanding Comics

I try not to cross-post too much from my other blog. It isn't that it is "cheating" as much as the audience for this blog is markedly different than the audience for a blog about comic books. (However, please feel free to check out my other blog....you may find something interesting).

My friend, Odin, sent me the following video, which I promptly posted on my blog. The speaker is Scott McCloud. He one of the first people to actually approach the art of comic book storytelling from an academic perspective. He literally wrote the book on it (Understanding Comics).

In this speech at the TED conference, he discusses the concept of visual narrative and what "vision" truly means. While he does focus on comics, the message transcends comics and enters the world of technology, futurism, and a whole host of other topics. It is fascinating, please check it out.

I love the TED conference podcasts, but I missed this one. I'll listen to it on my way to work today.
