Summer used to be one of my favorite TV "seasons." For many years it was a time where networks would air pilots to fill vacant slots in their programming (I still remember seeing Seinfeld as one of these pilots). There were zany game shows, lame "romances" and the occasional show that was very good, but never went anywhere (I am looking at you "Grapevine").
In recent years the summer tv season has become the home of reality tv. From 2000 with the first airing of Survivor, through recent fun with Wipeout and I Survived a Japanese Game Show, I have always enjoyed a little summer trash tv. Yes, I even enjoyed Celebrity Circus.
So, last night, I turned on I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! I had watched the original several years ago ad had laughed at their idea of "celebrity." Dan Jenner? Stuttering Mike? Downtown Julie Brown? Really? Celebrity??? what I ended up liking about the show was that it gave these celebs a chance to relax and show themselves beyond their "personas." So, I was interested in tuning in to see the new batch.
I lasted two minutes.
I don't know if I have grown up, the celebrities are 96 times more annoying, or if the idea of Lou Diamond Phillips sinking to this level is just too depressing. Whatever the reason, I couldn't watch it. I tried. I really did. But I just couldn't do it.
So, Emmy and I watched True Blood. I guess it satisfies the trashy summer tv watching itch. It has fun characters, sexy bodies, inconsistent acting, and is completely addicting. Good thing we have the series on DVD. I can't wait to go home and watch another episode!!!
Soon it will be time to dig in to some of my other favorite summer series. Burn Notice is back, as is Psych. I also have season 3 of Dexter that is just begging to be watched. I think I have enough tv to watch without sinking to the depths of celebrity trash. Unless of course there is another season of Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Wrestling. That's a whole different story!

I saw about as much of the celebrity show as you did.. They aren't really celebrities and perhaps should be left there!! :):)
I can't stand all those damn "reality" shows. Garbage.
True Blood is great and Dexter, Gods! I LOVE Dexter! How about In Plain Sight, Amazing Grace, Rescue Me and The Closer? That new one about the doctor looks pretty good.
I sure miss 4400.
(Okay, I watch WAY too much TV.)
I hate the "summer TV".
But Weeds will be back on come Monday...and I will be happy :)
