The Open Road

I am writing this from the park about two and a half miles from our hide. The girls are swinging on the swingset and Emmy is off riding her new bike to the river. She will meet back up with us in a bit.

The idea was that we would all go for a family bike ride. We would take the girls for a ride to celebrate summer, Emmy's new bike, and the fact that both girls can now ride two-wheelers without training wheels. It didn't quite turn out that way.

Both Daughters need lots more practice on their bikes. I am beginning to see the limitations of only allowing them to ride on the sidewalk in front of our house. While they can ride, they lack the speed and street smarts to go very far. That is why we stopped and Emmy went on. She needs a chance to open up with her new bike.

While my plan to ride plenty with the girls this summer remains intact, I think it is going to take several more rides before it is an activity that is enjoyable for the entire family. I don't think I will be able to take the girls on any training rides for my triathlon.

when i took the girls on a bike ride i tried to teach em street smarts... i guess i was wrong or it didn't set in yet!! Perhaps another lesson is calling.

I know what you mean.. I only allow mine to ride her bike in the driveway (no sidewalks) and in the grass.. She has zero street smarts about riding oh even our little roads, which makes it interesting when we ride.. I spend most of my time trying to keep my bike between her and the rest of the traffic!! If you hit on a method that works, fill me in!! :):)
