I went for a bike ride yesterday.
Or at least I tried to.
I intended to get out on my bike and set up a base-line training distance and time. There is a loop that I estimated to be close to twenty miles that would be primarily flat and relatively light on traffic. It would give me an opportunity to work on getting in to the aero position as well as just shake off the cobwebs (it has been a long time since I did any serious riding).
I set off at a pretty good pace. It felt good to be out and free.
I was keeping a fairly solid 20 MPH pace. I have no idea if that is good or bad, but it seemed like a good place to start. Coming down off the St. Johns bridge I hit 35 MPH and felt like Superman.
But, it was not to last. My bike started to ride rough and I knew there was trouble. I looked back and my rear tire was flat. After just a little over nine miles, my ride was over.
So, Monday I am off to find a tire repair kit. I learned a few lessons:
1) Make sure you carry a cell phone . Emmy had to come rescue me.
2) Make sure you carry a spare tube and pump. On my purchase list for tomorrow
3) Have a credit card. I couldn't have bought a tube and pump if I wanted to. I had no money!
4) Cyclists are awesome! Every cyclist who passed me slowed down to make sure I was okay and to offer assistance. What a great group. I can't wait to get back out on the road!

Good grief!!! I am so in the slow lane!! 35mph on a bike and I'd be scared to death!! Good luck with training!! :):)
It was a bit scary. The traffic whizzing by didn't help much!
